A massive landslide struck Wayanad in northern Kerala, claiming the lives of 167 people and injuring over 200 others, according to the district administration on Wednesday.

Among the deceased are 22 children, with 96 bodies identified so far. Post-mortem examinations of 166 victims have been completed, and 75 bodies have been handed over to their families. Authorities reveal that 219 people have been hospitalized from the disaster-hit areas, with 78 still receiving treatment.

Rescue operations, involving the Army, Navy, and NDRF, are ongoing as they search for survivors trapped under debris and the remains of houses destroyed in the landslides. The catastrophe, caused by torrential rains, struck the region’s hamlets early Tuesday morning, leading to significant loss of life and property.
