Carrie Underwood Returns to 'American Idol' as Judge
Carrie Underwood, who rose to fame after winning 'American Idol' in 2005, will return as a judge for the show's 23rd season, replacing Katy Perry. Underwood is the first 'Idol' alum to become a judge and joins Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. The new season premieres in spring 2025.
Carrie Underwood will be the next singer to join the judges' table on 'American Idol,' stepping in for Katy Perry following her departure in May. Underwood, who catapulted to fame after her victory in the 2005 season, will make her return as a judge for the upcoming 2025 season.
This will mark a historic moment as Underwood becomes the first 'American Idol' alum to take on the judging role. In a heartfelt video, Underwood expressed her pride in her journey from contestant to judge. Known as the most decorated artist in CMT Music Awards history with 25 wins, Underwood has also garnered eight Grammy Awards in her illustrious career.
Joining her on the panel will be seasoned judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, while longtime host Ryan Seacrest will also return. The new season will premiere in spring 2025 and will be available on ABC and Hulu. Auditions for the new season start on August 12 and end in September.
