Amidst substantial donations to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund, an elderly tea stall owner from Kollam in south Kerala has captured hearts through her selfless act of generosity. Subaida, who runs a small tea shop to support herself and her husband, donated Rs 10,000—comprising her modest earnings and welfare pensions—to aid those devastated by the Wayanad landslides.
Explaining her decision, she recounted to a TV channel how she had withdrawn the money to repay a loan interest but was moved by the news of the disaster. Her husband encouraged her to prioritize helping those in urgent need over their financial obligations. Subaida went on to deposit the amount at the collectorate, believing that her actions had a greater purpose.
This isn’t the first time Subaida has shown such philanthropic spirit. She previously sold her four goats to contribute to flood relief efforts. Despite criticism from some quarters for her decisions, Subaida remains unwavering, questioning whether it is more important to help locally or to reach out to those suffering the most.
