Tamil Film Producers' Council Clashes with Nadigar Sangam Over Production Delays
The Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) has accused the actors' union, Nadigar Sangam, of dishonesty regarding producers’ financial issues due to actors like Dhanush not committing to shoot dates. TFPC has announced production stoppages and new guidelines as a response, meeting resistance from Nadigar Sangam.
The Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) has accused the actors' union, Nadigar Sangam, of dishonesty, claiming they were informed about financial struggles due to actors like Dhanush failing to commit to shooting schedules.
According to a TFPC statement dated August 1, the concerns regarding call sheets for five top stars were communicated to Nadigar Sangam a year ago, and media coverage followed. TFPC has planned a review meeting on Friday for their decisions announced on July 29.
The TFPC criticized Nadigar Sangam's handling of the situation, stating they went public with their decisions to protect their interests. The producers also announced a halt on all shooting from November 1 until issues about escalating fees are resolved, and stipulated that new projects are not to be signed until existing films are completed. They proposed a ban from August 15 to establish new guidelines, with films featuring major stars to be released on OTT platforms only after an eight-week theater screening.
Nadigar Sangam, officially known as The South Indian Artistes’ Association (SIAA), has strongly resisted these demands. Actor Karthi and other SIAA representatives called the November 1 shooting stoppage “arbitrary and illegal,” arguing it jeopardizes livelihoods within the industry and accusing TFPC of naming Dhanush without proper process.
Despite resistance, TFPC remains firm on their decision to halt productions from November 11 until new guidelines are set, highlighting that other industry associations support their stance. TFPC’s statement emphasized that Nadigar Sangam should also comply with these terms.
