Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Saturday that India has evolved into a food surplus nation, striving to provide global solutions for food and nutritional security. Modi's remarks came during the inauguration of the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE), held in India after 65 years.

Modi pointed out the significance of the event, highlighting that India had newly attained independence the last time it hosted the conference, making the current achievement even more notable. He emphasized India's top producer status in various agricultural commodities and its second position globally in foodgrains, fruits, vegetables, among others.

The triennial ICAE, set from August 2 to 7, aims to strengthen global partnerships in agricultural research and policy. With a focus on sustainable agri-food systems, the conference serves as a platform for young researchers and experts from around 70 countries to present their work and establish collaborations. Modi also underscored initiatives like chemical-free farming, climate-resilient crops, and the target of 20% ethanol blending in petrol as part of India's sustainable agriculture agenda.
