Kerala CM Updates on Wayanad Disaster: 206 Missing, Rehabilitation Plans Underway

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that search and rescue operations in Wayanad are nearing completion, with 206 people still missing. He highlighted the challenges in identifying recovered bodies and ongoing rehabilitation efforts, including rebuilding affected schools.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Saturday that search and rescue operations in the disaster-affected Wayanad district are nearing their final stages, however, 206 individuals remain unaccounted for.

Addressing the media, Vijayan noted the challenges in identifying bodies and parts recovered from the Chaliyar river. So far, 215 bodies have been found, consisting of 87 women, 98 men, and 30 children, with 148 already handed over to families. Presently, 81 people are injured and receiving treatment across various hospitals.

Continuing, the Chief Minister said 67 bodies are still unidentified, and local panchayats will perform last rites. In terms of rehabilitation, he mentioned plans to identify a secure region to build a township. Additionally, the Education Minister will be visiting demolished schools, and steps will be taken to ensure disaster-affected children's education remains uninterrupted.
