Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal highlighted the historical significance of mediation in Indian culture during a Supreme Court event, anchoring his points in the epic tales of Mahabharat.
Speaking at the event, he emphasized how the power of introspection can effectively resolve disputes, drawing a parallel to contemporary Lok Adalats' role in matrimonial issues which were once handled by family elders.
Meghwal remarked that the first Lok Adalat was conducted by Lord Krishna, who attempted to mediate between the Kauravs and the Pandavs, quoting lines from Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. Celebrating 75 years of the Supreme Court, a special Lok Adalat week saw the settlement of over a thousand cases relating to various disputes.
