A 26-year-old UPSC aspirant from Maharashtra's Akola was discovered hanging in her PG in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi on July 21. The incident has brought attention to the hardships faced by students in coaching hubs.
In her suicide note, the woman discussed her battle with depression and called on the government to reduce job scams in government exams and to lower rents in student hostels. She also mentioned stress due to harassment by a man, according to her family members.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Harsha Vardhana, confirmed that an inquest was underway. Friends revealed she had been living in Delhi for four years preparing for civil services exams and had recently complained about rising hostel rents.
