Nine Kanwar Yatra Pilgrims Electrocuted in Bihar Tragedy

At least nine Kanwar Yatra pilgrims were tragically electrocuted to death, and three others sustained injuries after coming into contact with a high-tension overhead wire in Bihar's Vaishali district, a senior official revealed on Monday.

The incident unfolded in Sultanpur village, within the Industrial police station area, during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

Nine pilgrims (Kanwariyas) perished and three suffered severe injuries when a high-tension overhead wire fell on their vehicle in Sultanpur village, under the jurisdiction of the Industrial police station in Vaishali district.

The incident occurred in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday as the Kanwariyas were traveling to Baba Harihar Nath Temple in Sonepur for Jalabhishekh, according to Rambabu Baitha, the Sub-divisional Officer of Hajipur-Sadar.

The injured have been admitted to a hospital where their condition is reported to be stable.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the matter is currently under investigation, he added.
