Retiring Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh reflects on the emotional significance of hockey compared to the financial disparity with cricket. He underscores the unwavering support from Indian fans and the special feeling when the hockey team wins a medal, despite cricket's dominance in media coverage.

Indian men's team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh announced his retirement from international hockey on Thursday after India secured a second consecutive bronze medal with a 2-1 victory against Spain. He highlighted the immense emotional value attached to hockey, contrasting it with the financial allure of cricket.

Sreejesh pointed out the disproportionate media attention cricket receives, attributing it to the lack of visibility for hockey. Despite this, he emphasized that hockey holds a special place in the hearts of Indian fans, as evidenced by the support they consistently provide, win or lose.

He acknowledged the criticism faced by the team but noted that it is essential for growth. Sreejesh shared that even the Prime Minister recognizes the unique emotional impact of hockey triumphs, reinforcing the idea that passion sometimes outweighs financial considerations.
