British musician Ed Sheeran, a lifelong Ipswich Town supporter, has secured a 1.4% ownership stake in the club, which is preparing to rejoin the Premier League.
The club announced on Thursday that Sheeran will be a passive investor and will not serve on the board of directors.
In addition to his minority ownership, Sheeran's new role will grant him access to an executive box at Portman Road stadium. Sheeran expressed his gratitude and excitement, stating that owning a portion of his hometown club is a dream come true as Ipswich returns to the Premier League for the first time since 2002. The season opener is set to be a home game against Liverpool.
