New York City Mayor Eric Adams garnered attention for a slip-up during the Queens 9th India Day Parade, where he mistakenly referred to India and its diaspora community as 'Pakistan'.

Adams, speaking at an event replicating India’s Independence Day celebration, was surrounded by Indian flags and tricolour-themed decorations. In his remarks, while holding the Indian tricolour and the American flag, he confusingly mentioned Pakistan three times.

Members of the Indian-American community quickly corrected him, shouting 'India!' in response to the mix-up. This gaffe came after Adams had attended a flag-raising ceremony at Bowling Green Park, acknowledging both India’s and Pakistan’s independence days.
