In a tragic turn of events, two young girls fell into a pot of hot vegetables during a 'bhandara' (community feast) at a temple in Dheeg village on Sunday. The incident led to the death of a two-year-old girl and left another with serious burn injuries, according to police reports.
The accident occurred as the children were playing near the kitchen area of the feast. The cook, who had taken the pot off the stove to cool the vegetables, suffered burns to his hands while attempting to rescue the children. Both girls were rushed to a private hospital, where the younger child, Jiya, was declared dead, and the older child, Pari, was later transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment.
Following the incident, Jiya's body was handed over to her family after a post-mortem. The Ballabgarh Sadar police station's SHO, Umesh Kumar, stated that no official complaints had been received from the parents, but an investigation into the incident has been initiated. Villagers disposed of the 'prasad' in a pond as a mark of respect and mourning for the deceased child.
