Acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith resigned as the chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy on Sunday after allegations of misbehavior surfaced from a Bengali actress.
In an audio clip sent to a television channel, Ranjith stated that continuing in his position might damage the reputation of the Left government in Kerala.
He plans to legally contest the accusations, which he considers baseless. His resignation follows severe protests against him and pressures from opposition parties, Congress and BJP, who argued he had no moral right to remain in office.
