Malayalam actor and ruling CPI(M) MLA M Mukesh has been booked in a rape case following accusations by a female actor that he sexually assaulted her years ago, according to police reports on Thursday.
An FIR under IPC 376 (rape) was registered at Maradu police station in Kochi on Wednesday night, as the alleged offense occurred before the new Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita was implemented.
This marks the third high-profile FIR against Malayalam cinema figures in light of revelations from the Justice K Hema Committee report, which spotlighted rampant sexual harassment in the industry. The state has since formed a special investigation team to tackle these cases.
