Actor Radhikaa Sarathkumar has responded to the findings of the recently released Hema Committee report, which reveals shocking details of sexual harassment and exploitation faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. Sarathkumar highlighted the role played by the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) in initiating the report. She pointed out that the findings were not released for four years and only became public following a court order.
Speaking with ANI, Sarathkumar said, 'The Hema Committee was initiated by WCC, a group advocating for women's rights and working conditions. Although the report was compiled, it remained with the government for four years until a court mandated its release. Since its publication, numerous allegations have surfaced, severely affecting the top tier of the Malayalam film industry. This initiative aims to protect women. Throughout my career, I've observed many issues that need to evolve with changing times and lifestyles. Addressing these issues is crucial.'
Earlier, veteran actor Mohanlal lauded the Kerala government for releasing the Justice Hema Committee report. 'We welcome the Hema Committee report. The government's decision to release it was correct. AMMA cannot answer every question; these should be addressed collectively. This industry involves many hardworking individuals, but not everyone should be blamed. Wrongdoers will face consequences following investigations,' Mohanlal stated.
Mohanlal clarified he was not part of any power group within the Malayalam film industry and denied any knowledge of such groups. 'Those with evidence against them should face punishment,' he added, addressing accusations of sexual misconduct against industry members.
Recently, Mohanlal and other AMMA leaders resigned after serious sexual abuse allegations were made against several notable figures in Malayalam cinema, including director Ranjith and actors Siddique and Mukesh. The partially released Justice Hema Committee report, unveiled earlier this month, contains alarming accounts of harassment, exploitation, and mistreatment of women in the industry, causing an uproar.
