Selena Gomez has unveiled an intriguing idea she proposed for her character, Mabel Mora, in Hulu's hit series 'Only Murders in the Building'. Speaking at the Variety Studio, presented by J.Crew and SharkNinja at the Toronto International Film Festival, Gomez said she suggested her character become the murderer in a future season.
"I did pitch that," Gomez acknowledged during her interview with Variety. "I don't think it's going to work out, but you never know," she remarked.
This year has been monumental for Gomez, as she secured her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Mabel. Her performance has garnered widespread acclaim. Beyond discussing her stint in 'Only Murders in the Building', Gomez was joined by her co-stars from the musical 'Emilia Perez' -- Karla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldana, Edgar Ramirez, and Adriana Paz -- to discuss the film's critical reception and Oscar buzz.
The film, directed by Jacques Audiard, earned a combined Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. Meanwhile, Gomez continues to shine as a pivotal figure in 'Only Murders in the Building', also serving as an executive producer, marking her as the most nominated Latina producer in this category's history.
She joins the ranks of only two other Latina talents, Salma Hayek and Marlis Pujol, who have been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. Celia D. Costas remains the only Latina to have won in a top series category for 2004's 'Angels in America'. 'Only Murders in the Building' premiered its fourth season on August 27 on Hulu and is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
