The tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning while Vishnu Giri, 65, was sleeping outside the temple in the Rathodo Ka Gudha area.

Officials reported that Giri was dragged into the forest by a wild animal and mauled to death. His mutilated body was found around 150 meters from the temple on Monday morning, police stated.

Local residents believe that Giri was attacked by a leopard, although investigators are still determining the exact nature of the attack, according to forest officials.

There has been a surge of leopard attacks in Gogunda lately, claiming five lives and causing significant fear among the community.
