On Monday, the Supreme Court questioned the validity of claims that contaminated ghee was used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus, emphasizing that religion should remain separate from politics.

A bench including Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan inquired about the necessity of a public statement on the issue given that an investigation was already in progress.

The allegations were initially made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, targeting the former Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy-led administration. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta emphasized the issue’s gravity due to its implications on faith.

The YSR Congress Party responded by accusing Naidu of making unfounded, politically-driven accusations. The investigation into the issue continues.
