Several statues of Sai Baba were removed from temples across Varanasi on Tuesday, fueled by a campaign initiated by the group 'Sanatan Rakshak Dal'. The organization contended that the worship of Sai Baba is not scripturally approved.
The Sanatan Rakshak Dal removed a Sai Baba statue from the Bada Ganesh Temple, positioning it outside the temple's premises. Temple head priest Rammu Guru supported the action, claiming Sai Baba was being worshipped without proper knowledge, which is forbidden by scriptures. Ajay Sharma, the group's state president, emphasized that only the worship of Lord Shiva should be practiced in Kashi.
Opposition to the campaign was voiced by many, including the Sai Temple priest Samar Ghosh, who argued that all gods are one and such actions are divisive. Sai Baba devotees are distressed, believing the removal undermines the faith of millions. The Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust states that Sai Baba transcends religious boundaries, symbolizing universal love and unity.
