Memory Restored: Holocaust Survivor's Son Unveils Polish Memorials

Michael Pomeranc fulfills a lifelong mission by unveiling memorials in Poland to honor Jews, including his family, murdered during the Holocaust. Joined by relatives and Holocaust survivors, the ceremony seeks closure for the Pomeranc family and preserves the memory of those lost at the Adampol labor camp.

On Wednesday, Michael Pomeranc, son of a Holocaust survivor, completed a deeply personal mission in a Polish forest. He unveiled memorials honoring hundreds of Jews, including many from his father's family, who were killed by German forces during World War II.

Pomeranc, an American hotelier, led a ceremony at the former German labor camp of Adampol, commemorating those murdered there in 1943. Joined by family members and descendants of other survivors, the event featured prayers and speeches, including messages from Israeli and US ambassadors.

This initiative marks a larger effort to honor neglected sites of mass Jewish murders during the Holocaust. Using witness testimony and non-invasive technologies, researchers, led by forensic archaeologist Caroline Sturdy Colls, have identified potential mass grave sites in Adampol, aiming to restore and preserve the memories of the victims.
