To do justice to the historical figure, Kaushal underwent rigorous physical and mental preparation, which included a 25 kg weight gain and training in horse riding and sword fighting. 'Playing such a historical figure demands discipline, which becomes challenging when it's a commitment spanning over two years,' he shared in an ANI interview.

His preparation extended beyond physical transformations; Kaushal delved into the culture, history, and language of the era. Under the guidance of director Laxman Utekar, their collaboration saw them meeting daily, offering Kaushal a deeper understanding of the icon he was set to portray, while also drawing support from his wife, actress Katrina Kaif.
