A 27-year-old Balakrishnan was tragically killed by a wild elephant in Attamala, near Chooralmala, late Wednesday, as reported by police.
In protest against the inadequate measures to prevent such attacks, locals demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation and a government job for a dependent from the victim's family, which led to widespread unrest.
Following the incident, local leaders lambasted the state government, accusing it of negligence and announced a hartal in Wayanad, calling for stricter measures to protect residents living near forest areas from wild elephant attacks.
