In a move stirring controversy, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj assumed the position of jathedar at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Punjab's Rupnagar district. His appointment by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been met with opposition from various Nihang groups, who argue the 'Khalsa Panth' will never accept him.

Despite the criticism, Gargaj has called for the Sikh community to unite, urging the adherence to the unalterable December 2 edicts of the Akal Takht. The installation ceremony, held earlier than scheduled due to threats, was defended by SGPC officials who maintained it followed Sikh traditions.

The opposition highlights tensions within the Sikh community, as critics question the SGPC's decisions and alleged deviations from 'maryada' or traditional conduct. Gargaj emphasized the importance of cohesive leadership, addressing internal divisions and pledging to strengthen religious unity and awareness through grassroots initiatives.
