Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, the newly appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib and the acting Jathedar of Akal Takht, faced questions on his commitment to the Sikh community on Wednesday. In response, Gargaj stated he would vacate his position if the Sikh community, known as the 'Panth,' questioned his performance.
In the wake of controversy surrounding his appointment, Gargaj clarified that his role is not politically affiliated, asserting that he represents the community rather than any political party. He highlighted ongoing issues such as the removal of two jathedars by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), an action that did not align with established traditions.
Amidst the challenges, Gargaj stressed the importance of 'dharam parchar,' or religious propagation, across Punjab to counteract materialism and promote Sikhism. His leadership arrives at a critical juncture, as community leaders express concerns over recent events and religious practices, underscoring his commitment to uphold the authority of the Akal Takht.
