Kaziranga National Park is mourning the loss of its veteran sniffer dog, K9 Karina, who died from age-related health issues. The German Shepherd dedicated ten years to anti-poaching and criminal investigations alongside her handlers, gaining recognition for her contributions to wildlife protection.

Karina's notable achievements include aiding the seizure of a 0.303 rifle in 2023 and identifying a rhino poachers' den in 2018. Her contributions extended to solving a human murder case in 2016. She was trained under Traffic-India's sniffer dog program in Bhopal's 23rd Battalion.

Having recovered from major surgery last December, Karina's health declined recently, leading to her death on Thursday. The park community commemorated her dedicated service with a respectful farewell at the Assam Forest Protection Force headquarters.
