James Gunn, who now leads DC Studios, has possibly hinted at actress Adria Arjona taking on the role of Wonder Woman in his reimagined DC Universe. This speculation emerged after Gunn, well-known for directing 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' commended Arjona as a potential fit for the iconic superhero during a recent Variety interview.
In the interview, Gunn addressed fan theories fueled by his social media activities, particularly his recent Instagram follow of Arjona. He clarified, "I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out, 'He just followed her, that means she's Wonder Woman,'" adding, "She'd be a great Wonder Woman, by the way," according to Variety's report.
While Gunn emphasized that his support for Arjona was not solely based on social media, he highlighted their professional connection, having worked together seven years ago. Despite the absence of a formal announcement, Gunn's remarks have fueled excitement about Arjona potentially stepping into the Wonder Woman role.
Gunn previously shared his vision for the DC Universe, revealing plans for a new Wonder Woman film. Additionally, a TV series centered on Wonder Woman's homeland, Themyscira, is being developed for HBO, albeit at a slow pace. Gunn reassured fans that both projects are advancing.
The director's ambitious DC slate doesn't stop at Wonder Woman. Other planned releases include a 'Superman' film starring David Corenswet, set for a July 2025 release, and 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,' directed by Craig Gillespie, debuting in June 2026.
Moreover, Gunn and his team are preparing a unique project: 'Clayface,' a horror-themed origin story focusing on one of Batman's infamous foes. Directed by James Watkins with a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, 'Clayface' promises to offer a novel perspective when it arrives in September 2026.
