A tragic incident unfolded at Avsaneshwar Temple in Haidergarh early Monday morning when a stampede broke out among devotees, resulting in two deaths and 32 injuries. The chaos was triggered by a live electric wire that monkeys had damaged, leading to widespread panic as the current spread through a tin shed.
According to DGP Rajeev Krishna, the casualties were primarily due to electrocution. The electrified wire fell during the 'jalabhishek' ritual, a part of the holy month of Shravan, causing a stampede as panicked devotees tried to flee the scene. One of the deceased was identified as Prashant, a 22-year-old from Mubarakpura village.
Following the incident, senior police officers visited the site, and an investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events. Meanwhile, calls for compensation from political parties are growing, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressing condolences and urging swift relief measures for those affected.
