Pope Leo XIV Embraces Community Spirit with Refugees and Homeless

Pope Leo XIV ended his summer vacation by hosting a special Mass and luncheon at the Vatican's lakeside estate for refugees, homeless, and poor people, as well as church volunteers. The event underscored his long-standing commitment to social service, inspired by his missionary work in Peru.

Pope Leo XIV concluded his summer retreat by spending quality time with refugees, the homeless, and the impoverished, accompanied by church volunteers. The pontiff celebrated a special Mass at the St. Mary sanctuary in Albano, adjacent to Castel Gandolfo, the Vatican's summer estate.

The gathering drew around 110 attendees, comprised of people supported by the local Caritas charity and volunteers managing shelters and social services. Emphasizing the 'fire of charity,' Pope Leo encouraged unity, asserting that both givers and receivers share the same dignity within the church.

A luncheon followed at Borgo Laudato Si', Vatican's environmental education center, featuring a menu with lasagna and roast veal. Pope Leo dined with guests, including a Peruvian refugee and an elderly Roman resident, reinforcing the church's commitment to aiding society's most vulnerable.
