Preserving Marathi: A Cultural and Social Movement

Vishwas Patil, a noted author and former bureaucrat, emphasizes the importance of preserving the Marathi language for the survival of its culture and literature. As the president of the All India Marathi Literary Meet, Patil advocates for public involvement in cultural development and champions the establishment of Marathi Bhavans to nurture local activities.

At a recent event hosted by the Thane Municipal Corporation to honor him, acclaimed author and former bureaucrat Vishwas Patil stressed the critical need for preserving the Marathi language as a means to safeguard its culture and literature.

Appointed as the president of the 99th All India Marathi Literary Meet scheduled for January 2026 in Satara, Patil highlighted that the preservation of Marathi is not just a cultural act but a necessary social movement. He urged collective action and underscored the importance of maintaining Marathi schools, even if they have only one student.

The author also called for increased public participation in cultural development, suggesting the construction of 'Marathi Bhavan' in every taluka of Maharashtra. Recalling his own history with Thane, Patil likened its civic structure to a cultural body due to its literary roots, a sentiment echoed by TMC's additional commissioner Sandeep Malvi.
