Legal Milestone in Zubeen Garg Case: Assam Receives Green Light

Union Home Minister Amit Shah granted approval to the Assam government to proceed legally against individuals linked to the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg. This approval allows the state police to file charges, marking a crucial step in pursuing the case involving the late artist's passing in Singapore.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given the go-ahead for the Assam government to take legal action against those involved in the death of Zubeen Garg. This approval, granted under Section 208 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), allows the state police to file a charge sheet in the case.

The significant legal development coincided with the birth anniversary of Zubeen Garg, a cultural icon in Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to the Union Home Minister for this pivotal authorization, which is essential for pursuing the case outside India legally.

Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore during the North East India Festival (NEIF) on September 19. Following his death, multiple FIRs were lodged, leading to the arrest of seven individuals, including festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta. An SIT under Assam's CID is conducting the investigation.
