In a significant development, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has reached out to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, demanding transparency regarding the alleged association of his ministry with an accused in singer Zubeen Garg's death investigation.
Gogoi expressed concerns over Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's murder allegation, emphasizing the need for a statement from the Ministry. The artist, Garg, passed away while swimming in Singapore during the North East India Festival (NEIF), 2025. The Assam Police's SIT has apprehended seven individuals, among them Shyamkanu Mahanta, the festival's chief organizer.
Through a letter, Gogoi highlighted a potential conflict of interest, pointing fingers at Mahanta's links with the Ministry of External Affairs, who reportedly received funds for organizing events. Gogoi urged Jaishankar to address these concerns and clarify any associations between the ministry's leadership and the accused.
