The Indian National Congress has distanced itself from a remark made by Adoor Prakash, the UDF convenor, who said Malayalam cinema star Dileep received 'justice' after being acquitted in the 2017 actress sexual assault case.
Congress leaders, including V D Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala, urged an appeal against the verdict, citing the prosecution's failure to prove a conspiracy. They reiterated support for the survivor, amid conflicting views within the party.
A culture minister declared the victim got justice, yet the court's decision to acquit Dileep and three others is under scrutiny. Meanwhile, convicted assailants await sentencing, and Dileep claims a plot by authorities aimed to tarnish his name.
