From Streets to Studios: The Upcycling Revolution with Top Manta
In Barcelona, the cooperative Top Manta transforms the lives of former street vendors, offering them opportunities in fashion. Founded by former Senegalese street hawkers, the initiative supports migrants in gaining formal residency and employment. Top Manta's garments advocate for migrant rights through powerful slogans.

In a vibrant Barcelona studio, models donned garments crafted by ex-street vendors now part of Top Manta. This cooperative, born from necessity, offers migrants a legitimate path in fashion, far from their past selling counterfeit goods.
Senegal native, Djibi Gabigag, found fresh purpose at Top Manta after arriving in Spain as an undocumented migrant. Previously dependent on street vending, he now takes pride in his craftsmanship and newfound community connections.
Spain’s recent migration surge underscores Top Manta's relevance. Founders Lamine Sarr and Aziz Faye, both former street vendors, now assist fellow migrants with legal pathways, challenging the informal economy's weight with meaningful work contracts and advocacy through fashion.
