Pope Leo's Historic Visit: Sagrada Familia's New Heights and Messages of Peace
Pope Leo visited the Sagrada Familia to inaugurate its newest spire and emphasized peace in his sermon, marking Gaudi's 100th death anniversary. He addressed prisoners and monks about change and avoiding damaging speech, underscoring his messages with gestures towards Spain's cultural identity.
Pope Leo made a notable visit to Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, unveiling its latest spire, which now qualifies it as the tallest church globally. During the Mass, he lauded Gaudi's 'architectural masterpiece' while blessing the Tower of Jesus Christ with King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in attendance.
In his sermon, Leo, criticized by former U.S. President Donald Trump for his stance against the Iran war, preached that Christians cannot reconcile faith with the promotion of war. He remarked that the ongoing construction of the Sagrada Familia symbolizes the continuous journey of Christian life and does not detract from its grandeur.
Leo's visit also included meetings at a Spanish penitentiary and the Benedictine abbey in Montserrat. At both venues, he encouraged personal growth beyond past actions and warned against the hazards of harmful communication, including gossip on social media, speaking briefly in Catalan, aligning with regional identity.
