Veteran Bollywood actor and film producer Salim Khan made headlines on Thursday as he cast his vote during the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections at a polling station in Mumbai. Notably, film director Rakesh Roshan was also seen exercising his democratic right at a city polling booth.
Across Mumbai, several high-profile personalities from the film industry flocked to polling stations, sending a strong message to citizens about the importance of participating in the BMC elections. These elections, involving 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, play a pivotal role for cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nashik, and Pimpri-Chinchwad, following an extensive campaign.
The political landscape features an alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena under the Mahayuti banner, except in Pune. Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faces the challenge alone in several corporations and has teamed up with other factions in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. With 3.48 crore eligible voters, 15,908 candidates are competing for 2,869 seats across 893 wards. Voting commenced at 7:30 am and will conclude at 5:30 pm on Thursday, with vote counting scheduled for Friday, January 16.
