Over one crore devotees gathered to take a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Ganga and Sangam during the annual Magh Mela in Prayagraj on Makar Sankranti, officials reported. This year's event celebrated the Sun's transition into Uttarayan, with the faithful participating in religious rituals from midnight onwards.

The Mela administration, led by District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma, emphasized orderly procedures, urging participants to complete their ritual baths and move on without unnecessary delays. Enhanced facilities, such as improved changing rooms for women, were noted by participants as significant improvements over previous years.

Law enforcement and sanitation teams were on high alert to manage the massive crowds and maintain hygiene standards. With over 10,000 police personnel and 3,500 sanitation workers deployed, the administration successfully coordinated the event across 800 hectares. The Magh Mela continues to be a cornerstone of cultural and religious life in the region.
