In the lead-up to Mumbai Climate Week, the Grand Marathon in Malad West saw over 1,500 students and citizens unite for a sustainable future. Organized by Project Mumbai, with backing from UNICEF and BMC, the marathon emphasized climate awareness and community action.
The event, which is part of Project Mumbai's Zero Waste School Initiative, was designed to minimize plastic waste, with recycling measures in place to convert waste into useful amenities. Shishir Joshi, CEO of Project Mumbai, highlighted the importance of collective action for a cleaner city.
This initiative, alongside Mumbai Climate Week's hub and spoke model, shows how collaboration between educational institutions and citizen groups can effectively scale climate efforts, ensuring actions extend beyond just conference settings.
