Nominated Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy called for the expansion of Project Mausam on Thursday, emphasizing the global importance of India's cultural heritage. This Ministry of Culture initiative, first introduced internationally in 2014, seeks to protect and promote India's historical influence across the Indian Ocean region.
The Mausam project aims to document and nominate maritime cultural landscapes on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It hopes to reconnect countries within the Indian Ocean by highlighting their shared cultural values and history with India, which have been overlooked over time.
Murthy noted that India historically influenced 39 countries through peaceful means such as trade, ideas, and cultural exchange. She advocated for the project to be prioritized, drawing inspiration from the President's Address that stressed the importance of culture and heritage.
