The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy recently witnessed a leadership change, leading to a wave of controversy. Minister for Cultural Affairs, Saji Cherian, declared the shift as a 'routine administrative process' following the governing body's term completion. The removal of actor Prem Kumar from his role as chairman-in-charge has come under scrutiny.
Responding to allegations by Prem Kumar, who cited 'double standards,' Minister Cherian clarified that the decision was entirely unrelated to Kumar's public views. Highlighting the academy's policy, Cherian emphasized that cultural activists are free to express independent opinions, irrespective of the ruling regime's stance.
Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty has assumed the chairmanship amidst the ongoing dispute. Minister Cherian offered reassurances that any communication lapses regarding the change will be addressed, and discussions will be held to resolve grievances. This development unfolds as the state gears up for the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala.
