Thousands of devotees converged on Shiva temples across Kerala on Sunday to observe Mahashivratri, one of the most significant festivals in honor of Lord Shiva.

In Aluva, devotees assembled along the Periyar river to perform the 'Balitharppanam' ceremony. Temporary structures and additional priests ensured the smooth flow of the special rituals. Many devotees also engaged in fasting and remained awake throughout the night, participating in bhajans and cultural events on temple grounds.
