In a tragic episode during a wedding procession in Gorakhpur, a DJ operator identified as Chhotu, 18, was fatally shot by stray celebratory gunfire. The incident occurred near the Guru Kripa Marriage Hall, cutting the festivities short, according to local police reports on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses and police accounts revealed that the groom's 'baraat,' featuring loud music and dancing, was nearing its destination when the unfortunate incident took place. During the revelry, a young participant allegedly fired a pistol into the air, with the third shot tragically striking Chhotu in the head. Rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The incident prompted several guests to abandon the venue, though the wedding continued after some delay. Authorities have detained several individuals and are scrutinizing CCTV footage to identify the shooter. SP (South) Dinesh Puri confirmed the incident was a result of celebratory firing and that questioning of procession attendees is underway.
