Disney's much-anticipated live-action remake of its 1973 animated film 'Robin Hood' has been shelved, confirmed filmmaker Carlos Lopez Estrada. Known for directing 'Raya and the Last Dragon,' Estrada disclosed the unfortunate news during a Reddit AMA session, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The remake, which was initially announced in 2020, was planned to employ a hybrid format of live-action and CGI, akin to 'The Jungle Book' and 'Dumbo.' Estrada lamented the project's termination, revealing that they had crafted extraordinary music for the adaptation.
'Robin Hood,' originally a comedic and musical portrayal of the legendary English folklore, featured anthropomorphic animals instead of people to bring its characters to life. The original film was a success, raking in over $33 million at the box office.
