In an exciting update for Disney's live-action portfolio, Diego Luna has joined the cast of the forthcoming 'Tangled' adaptation, taking a unique role as the film heads into production in Spain this June. Teagan Croft will star as Rapunzel alongside Milo Manheim's Flynn Rider, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The lead roles were secured after an extensive international casting search late last year. Kathryn Hahn, known for her standout performances in 'Agatha All Along' and 'The Studio,' will portray the cunning Mother Gothel in the anticipated film.

Luna's involvement brings a fresh dimension to the story as he portrays a character specifically designed for this live-action version. While the specifics of his role remain undisclosed, including whether it involves musical elements, anticipation for this adaptation continues to build.

Directed by renowned filmmaker Michael Gracey, noted for hits like 'The Greatest Showman,' the live-action 'Tangled' aims to capture the musical essence of its animated predecessor. The original film was a massive success, earning over USD 591 million worldwide and even inspiring a Disney Channel series.

Kristin Burr of Burr! Productions is handling production, while the screenplay is crafted by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor. Executive oversight comes from Disney Live Action's VP of Production, Jessica Virtue. Luna, known for his acclaimed role in 'Andor,' will soon debut his directorial feature 'Ashes' at the Cannes Film Festival.

Additionally, Luna stars in Netflix's biographical drama 'Mexico 86,' depicting Martin de la Torre and Mexico's 1986 FIFA World Cup bid, enriching his diverse acting portfolio. (ANI)
