Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma is embroiled in a legal tussle following accusations of using indecent language at a college event in Dehradun. Sharma has publicly expressed regret twice for his remarks during the performance held on April 11 at DAV Post Graduate College.
Claiming he was mentally distressed due to a threat to his family, Sharma explained the situation to reporters. He stated that a criminal had threatened his family in the US, instructing him to insure himself for Rs 20-25 crore to avoid future troubles. The threat implied he wouldn't leave Dehradun safely.
The event, organized by a students' union, saw an FIR filed against Sharma based on social media videos and a complaint by a student organization. The police invoked several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, launching an investigation. The Haryana State Commission for Women has summoned Sharma to explain his actions on April 18.
