Turmoil Over 'Lawrence of Punjab': Threats, Controversy, and Calls for Ban

In a developing controversy, Congress MP and former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa disclosed receiving a threatening message from the Lawrence Bishnoi group. The threat was a reaction to his stance against the release of 'Lawrence of Punjab', a docu-series focusing on the controversial figure.

The political drama intensified as the docu-series faced condemnation for potentially glorifying gangster culture. Randhawa, alongside Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, called for a ban on the series, even petitioning the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting advised ZEE5 to halt the series' release amidst concerns from Punjab Police, who feared it could disrupt public order and influence youth negatively. The series, which examines Lawrence Bishnoi's criminal trajectory, was originally slated for an April 27 release.
