Bengaluru's well-loved independent bookstore, Bookworm, experienced significant losses after a heavy downpour and hailstorm struck the city on Wednesday evening. Approximately 4,000–5,000 books, valued at several lakhs, were damaged due to flooding in the store situated on Church Street.
Despite the blustery storm providing a respite from the sweltering 37 degrees Celsius heat, it caused extensive damage and disrupted city life. Bookworm shared the extent of the loss in an Instagram post, drawing sympathy and support from patrons.
Many readers and visitors responded with offers to help and support. On Thursday, Bookworm expressed gratitude to its community for their overwhelming encouragement and informed them of efforts to resume regular operations soon.
