The remains of the US Coast Guard ship USCGC Tampa, which was tragically sunk during World War I, have been located off England's coast, the Coast Guard announced. The shipwreck, sitting about 300 feet deep, was identified by the Gasperados diving team.

Adm Kevin Lunday highlighted the legacy of courage and sacrifice represented by the Tampa's crew. All 131 aboard, including Coast Guardsmen, US Navy personnel, and others, perished in the 1918 attack, marking the largest American naval loss in World War I.

The Gasperados team, which dedicated three years to this discovery, worked alongside the Coast Guard Historian's Office to authenticate the site. Plans for further underwater research are underway to honor those lost.
