The Trinamool Congress (TMC) finds itself under significant internal strain as a political storm brews within its ranks. Supti Pandey, a TMC leader, confirmed on Monday that National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has been cooperating thoroughly with federal investigators amid ongoing interrogations. Interestingly, Pandey distanced from the party's traditional critique of central authorities, asserting that the questioning doesn't signify political vendetta against Banerjee.
Pandey's comments came during her visit to TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee's residence, where she addressed a shifting political climate marked by internal dissent. In a surprising political turn, 20 Members of Parliament from TMC have decided to join forces with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), a move that sent ripples through West Bengal's ruling party.
Regarding the defection, Pandey stated that the lawmakers acted based on personal judgment and internal assessments, indicating their actions weren't influenced by external pressures. In a related development, an arrest warrant was issued against Sumit Roy, the personal aide of Abhishek Banerjee, in connection to the multi-crore Primary Teachers Recruitment scam investigation in West Bengal.
