Delhi High Court Clears Path for OTT Release of Dhurandhar 2 Amid Copyright Dispute
The Delhi High Court approved the OTT release of 'Dhurandhar 2', despite a lawsuit from Trimurti Films over a remixed song from 'Tridev'. The court rejected the plea to block the film's streaming but required Super Cassettes to deposit Rs 50 lakh as potential damages should Trimurti win the case.
The Delhi High Court has authorized the OTT release of 'Dhurandhar 2', even as it faces a copyright challenge from Trimurti Films. The case centers on a remixed track from the 1989 movie 'Tridev'.
Justice Tushar Rao Gedela ruled against Trimurti Films' attempt to halt the streaming, citing potential compensation for any proven copyright infringement later. The court noted that banning the OTT release would create an incongruous situation, as the film has already premiered in cinemas.
The court mandated Super Cassettes to deposit Rs 50 lakh in case Trimurti Films prevails. T-series, which has remixed the contested song previously without issue, claims comprehensive rights over the music. The legal dispute underscores the complexities of copyright law in a modern media landscape.
